How to care for your BOHO Story Pole

This one is easy. If your pole is displayed indoors, simply wipe it gently with a dry cloth to keep it clean. Poles that are displayed outdoors can be cleaned with warm water and mild dish soap. Poles that are outside year round should be given a little extra help to stay bright and beautiful for years. Every two years or so, clean your pole and let it dry thoroughly. Then give it one coat of OIL-BASED (not water-based!) SPAR VARNISH. You can apply the varnish with a paint brush or buy the spray can version. BOHO Story Poles can withstand tons of rain and snow, but they are a little sensitive to very hot weather. We do not recommend having your pole placed where it is in direct sun if your weather is over 90 degrees on a regular basis. The cedar will gradually begin to show signs of drying out in this type of climate. If you live in an area with very hot summer weather, it would be best to mount your story pole in the shade.

Different Options for Mounting your BOHO Story Pole

Indoors: We have a local craftsman construct bases for us to display our story poles indoors. He charges us $64.00 for each one and we will gladly sell them to you at the same price (plus sales tax). They are made of metal and look like this:

Outdoors: We purchase fence post anchors made by kdgarden and have them available at shows and our studio for you to take home and utilize at no charge to you. They look like this:

Post anchors are typically used for mounting mail boxes or fence posts, but they are perfect for mounting story poles, too! We have instructions to guide you through the process. You need a level and a heavy duty hammer (we use the back of our sledgehammer), as well as a block of wood (see picture). We even have extra blocks of wood to send home with you, if you need one.
